Between the Worlds

From the secrets of childhood to the horrors of the Lebanese Civil War, Andrée Chedid draws us into worlds that we have forgotten or never known. In Between the Worlds Chedid vividly evokes a host of characters living very different lives in Europe and the Middle-East, all the time teasing out insights into the nature of friendship, family and conflict.

Published in English for the first time, as part of the successful Flambard Modern Classics series, Chedid's short stories reveal an author delicately traversing Eastern and Western traditions in an elegant and original style. Comedy and tragedy blend in a collection characterised by a powerful sense of place and an uncommon empathy with contrasting ways of living.
